Why are we doing this?
When we ran the Duct Tape Prize and gave away 50k to builders, we met some remarkable people who put the money to great use.
We're scaling it up now, to include scientists and operators, because there are too many talented and smart people in the world who don't have the resources to do everything they're capable of. We hope this will give more of them the chance to try.
Who can apply?
Engineers, scientists, and operators. We know these descriptors may feel limiting and will never fully encapsulate all that you are, so if you are unsure which one(s) you fall under, please refer to the application questions to see what you align with the most.
If you are applying as a team, the prize will be shared amongst the group.
There is no age limit, specific category of interest, geographic restriction, etc.
Do I have to be working on something right now?
No. Whether you're simply exploring or already working on something, we want to support thoughtful people with ambitious ideas.
What is the selection process?
There is a short written application to show who you are and what you care about. We review every application, and finalists will be notified if they are selected for an interview.
How should I spend the prize money?
We're here to believe in you, not to tell you what to do. We take no equity and have no expectations. You can use it to support a project, a risk you have been considering, or simply buy more time to think.
What do I have to do if I win?
Nothing! We might reach out to grab coffee. But if you say no, the money is still yours :)
